![]() ![]() It's been in there for 2 months now and I've had no issues (touch wood). Once all that was set up I just mounted it in the car. If you are thinking of using a new GEN II Nexus 7, Timur has just released a ROM for that which can be found on his site. I also installed Tasker, allowing the Nexus to automatically open apps on power up eg Music, Maps etc, All in one Gestures allowing for swipe gestures to control the tablet eg swipe right for home, left for back etc. On the software side I installed Timur's Rom for the first gen Nexus 7, which supports fast USB host charging, powered USB host mode, fixed installation mode (sleep on power loss - great for the car) and a bunch of other improvements. An auxiliary input cable goes from there to the front of my headunit. The USB end of the Y-cable powers the USB hub which the digital to analogue converter plugs into. I plugged the Anker charger into the auxiliary power in the arm rest, ran the 6 foot USB to micro USB up through the dash and into the USB OTG Y-cable. With the Nexus mounted, power and audio were the next things to sort out. This enabled me to leave the Nexus completely unmodified, in case I want to sell/update it. I built a small acrylic box to the dimensions of the DIN brackets that came with the pod and then gorilla glued the Nexus 7 hard case to the front of the box. I wanted the Nexus to be in the car permanently but be relatively easy to remove if I really needed to. I had bought a Double Din gauge pod cluster, as it fits the dimensions of the Nexus 7 screen perfectly and it sits in the drivers eye line level. I ordered the parts up and snagged a refurbished Nexus (2012) 32GB from ebay for $100. One of my favourite projects I’ve seen thus far has been a tablet install in the dash pod. I wanted something that would give me some privacy for the golf clubs when the screen couldn’t be used. Tint was probably my number one concern since there’s a lot of glass back there. Bluetooth streaming works flawlessly and sounds pretty good. I wanted plenty of audio input options and so far I’m very impressed with it. Later that night with the help of a couple buddies a new Sony MEX-N5000BT was put in replacing the stock headunit. Of course four years of browsing has given me plenty of time to work out what I want to do, so Gramps has been treated to a few improvements in the few short weeks of ownership so far.įirst port of call was to get rid of the stock gear shifter and install a new Kartboy aluminium one! Feels a lot better to shift with, as I wasn’t a fan of the leather. Thankfully the head gaskets & timing belt had been done and it was in good shape overall. I had the car checked before I bought it for piece of mind. I knew the guy who had traded it in as he coached Cross Country at my college, hence the Gramps nickname. “Gramps” is a 2005 Forester XS 5 Speed that I picked up with 119,000 miles on the clock. Sadly studying abroad (being from Scotland) on a golf scholarship meant that I was pretty broke, but thankfully I saved enough to buy my Foz earlier this month! After browsing the Member's Journals and seeing the high level of care and pride put in to each car, I knew I had to make my purchase Forester. Been a lurker of the forum since my freshman year of college having discovered the Subaru Forester through watching Mighty Car Mods.
